This outstanding Grade II listed, Georgian Carriage House was a major renovation project, the couple had renovated properties before so were excited about the task that laid ahead. The homeowners had just moved from Devon and came across The Main Company at The Listed Building Show in Harrogate, just a day after moving in! The beautiful property is located in Harrogate, local to The Main Company’s showroom, which made the collaboration between the homeowners and The Main Company, perfect.
Within 2 weeks, the homeowners and The Main Company had agreed on the final design of the kitchen. To marry the character of the house, the homeowners opted for a combination of natural materials, rustic flooring, and oak units. The couple had a large island in their previous kitchen but agreed that it wasn’t the most practical, so in this kitchen, they opted for a smaller island complete with breakfast bar, where they can sit and look out on the garden.
The design the couple chose was actually the same style as the one we had on display at the Listed Building Show and was love at first sight. It was important to the homeowners to capture the character of the house, maximising the space but being sympathetic towards original features such as the Aga oven. Funnily enough, the couple originally hated this but felt like they should keep it, but by using other furnishings to complement it, they now love it! Throughout the kitchen there are traditional aspects such as the Oak cabinetry, while the copper fixtures and granite worktops give it a contemporary twist.
The cabinetry has been finished with Little Greene Company paint, in the shade Scree 227. The homeowners went for a combination of styles, from unpainted oak to the painted oak to with and without paneling. There are also some shelves, floor to ceiling cupboards and glass front cabinets, adding to the retro feel of the space and creating plenty of storage space. The look has been further intensified by the addition of the black flooring and, red and gold accents throughout.
Combining sophisticated and contemporary style, The Main Company used an eclectic mix of engineered weathered oak doors and painted cabinetry to create a spectacular kitchen. Copper and brass were used throughout, as well as grey Silestone worktops, complementing the statement metallic finishes.
