The clients wanted to put their stamp on their gorgeous new London cottage. The Chelsea kitchen project brief was to create a contemporary, punchy and timeless kitchen but with organic softened tones. Part of the kitchen was a galley style which brings its own expectation challenges when designing a perfectly functioning layout.
The reclaimed timber we used, Weathered Barn Oak with a Raw Lacquer is a perfect match for the organic nature of the Caesarstone ‘Raw Concrete’ engineered quartz worktop. The positioning of the timber cladding on the back of the peninsula means that there is symmetry and connection between the wall cabinets and shelves on the back wall in engineered reclaimed oak and the cladding at the front.
The wall area remains light and open with engineered shelves bookended by single door wall cupboards. The shelves have hidden LED strip lights routered into the underside of both shelves to give a soft illumination when the main lights are off. Open shelves are so simple to use, everything immediately visible and the ensemble of piles of crockery interspersed with jugs, bottles and decorative items is a feast for the eyes. The appliances are nearly all from Fisher and Paykel with the addition of a Bora induction hob with built in extraction and this is why it is possible to have the shelves above it.
The tap is the muti functioning Quooker Flex in stainless steel fitted over an 1810 ZenUno15/500 sink.
The wooden floor from the peninsula area going out of the kitchen is Weathered Oak in Natural White (ENG001) and this is also used throughout the rest of the house.
