A place to eat, meet, relax, and so much more. A kitchen is the heart of the home, and that is exactly what the Matthews family wanted to create. This beautiful kitchen was part of a whole house renovation that took place during the first lockdown in 2020.
This 4 bedroom 17th century detached home comprised of many small rooms, so downstairs, 3 rooms were knocked through to create one large and inviting kitchen and family room, which is where we, The Main Company come in.
The Matthews family wanted to create a kitchen that was in keeping with the era of the house and also the décor throughout the renovation. The kitchen itself is full of quirky features and is complemented by ceiling beams and cladding.
As the space was light and airy, the shaker style cabinets were finished in combination of Basalt and pale grey, adding depth and modern touch to the room. Basalt and grey are colours often associated with nature and provide a coastal touch. This is further enhanced by the exposed brickwork and reclaimed oak used in various places throughout to complement the stylish cabinetry, with exposed metal work adding to the look. Splashes of wood were also added around the extractor fan and on top of the upper cupboards, which we think looks amazing. The Main Company also created a feature wall using reclaimed oak, something that added warmth to the space and tied the room together.
As well as creating a relaxing and soothing space for the family, the kitchen is also practical too. A kitchen island houses plenty of storage, the hob with extractor fan in the ceiling above and a breakfast bar to sit at. An island is an invaluable addition to a large kitchen space. The traditional shaker style cabinets have been topped with a white marble worktop, with exposed wooden shelving and upper cabinets completing the final look. The Matthews family also selected a range of high quality appliances including a white Lacanche oven, Quooker tap, Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer, dishwasher and wine fridge.
To finish off the room, The Main Company also supplied reclaimed oak flooring and created a bench area, perfect for muddy boots. This renovation has been a labour of love for the Matthews family and it was a pleasure to be involved in creating this timeless and inviting space that we hope they will enjoy for years to come.
