Set in the heart of London, in Hammersmith, Kindred is surrounded by stunning architecture and the buzz of city life. Kindred is a member’s club with a heart for community and connection, something that they wanted to emphasise within their welcoming and relaxing interiors.
The Main Company was specified by Luca from ShawStudio. Luca had been searching long and hard to find a company that had the expertise and flexibility to create an oak that was rustic but also had a warm undertone. The Reclaimed heritage Oak was the perfect base product for us to create this bespoke floor for Kindred. The Main Company could provide an engineered solution that could be fitted directly onto the concrete sub base, saving time and money for the main contractor, BB Contracts.
The space incorporates a café, bar, restaurant, live event space, meeting rooms and co-working space, with their main focus to bring people together. The idea for Kindred was born out of a desire to find a solution to the growing isolation and disconnection in London, something we think they do perfectly.
The area is light and airy, thanks to the high ceilings and large windows that create a sun-soaked space. Original features are enhanced and contrasted by modern additions such as light features and a fire acts as a focal point. Sumptuous velvets and gold detailing complete the look and add that touch of luxury you would expect from a member’s club.
The brief set by Shaw Studios London was to create a reclaimed engineered board that had burnt tones running throughout the planks, making the boards look like they had been part of the beautiful original structure which is brimming with characterful features such as intricate coving.
Our Reclaimed Engineered Old Oak was the perfect solution. The Reclaimed Oak was supplied in random widths, adding to the charm and character of the surroundings. The hand rolled edges and original pegs randomly intersecting the boards are a nod to their previous life within agricultural buildings across Europe. The oak creates a warm and cosy setting and is full of character, the knots and deep patina really pop amongst the cooler interiors. The Oak has been hand finished by our master craftsmen, at our family run workshop in Yorkshire, creating a hardy and durable floor, that will stand the test of time.
At The Main Company, we pride ourselves on collaborating with brands to help make their visions a reality, using the highest quality of materials.
