Commercial Project 17 – The Main Company, Islington

A project close to our hearts, our London showroom opened earlier in 2020. It was around 2 years ago that we first considered opening a showroom in London as we were doing more and more business in the South East and surrounding areas. Despite a challenging year of curveballs and restrictions, our London showroom has finally come to fruition, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.

Our London show room is located in the Business Design Centre, and cannot be missed thanks to its unique and striking façade.  It was essential that the London showroom showcased the high quality design and materials that our customers know and love, this was our chance to create something that encapsulated everything that we are passionate about, whilst showcasing the skills  and craftsmanship of our team. The space showcases all of the different services that we can offer here at The Main Company, from kitchens and cladding, to flooring and both built-in and freestanding furniture, the London showroom has it all.

The Main Company is known for our rustic and reclaimed work and that is something we wanted to be at the forefront of the store. You can often tell a lot about a store from the exterior, so we wanted to make sure that this came across from the outside. It was important to us to create something that not only stood out, but also was in keeping with our company values. As a company we love working with raw materials, so we chose to use a Coreten steel for the exterior of the showroom, the finished product looks amazing, and ties back to our Yorkshire showroom too.

Next up was the flooring; throughout the showroom we use two types of wood flooring. In the front entrance we used our recently launched cobble design in Weathered Barn Brick and for the rest of the showroom we used our popular Weathered Barn Oak, laid in random widths adding to the rustic feel of the space. Our Weathered Barn Oak instantly adds an abundance of character to any room, with its beautiful weathered effect. The planks have been hand finished creating a durable and hardwearing surface, perfect for a busy show room.

Once the flooring had been laid, we began to work on the kitchen. We absolutely loved putting together this kitchen as it comprised of different styles, designed to inspire visitors to the showroom. It was also important to us to make the most of the space available within the kitchen as this is something we always aim to do when working with customers.  The range run has been created using Engineered Weathered Grey, with various handless drawers and inserts either side. For the work surface, we chose a solid concrete in our own bespoke shade named ‘Main Iron’. We love concrete worktops and they further add to the rustic and natural feel of the kitchen. Concrete worktops are timeless and can be created bespoke to any kitchen, incorporating different textures or flecking to match your style.  We installed shelving rather than upper cabinets’, adding to the industrial feel of the space, and this is something that we know our customers love. We also incorporated a kitchen island, inspired by a previous project that was admired on our Instagram.  The unique breakfast bar has been made from chunky reclaimed pine that sits on Reclaimed Weathered Oak columns, joined by cast iron brackets. Exuding texture and warmth, this really would be the perfect space to sit and relax. Below the bar area, you will find copious amounts of storage, perfect for keeping Tupperware! The remainder of the island offers even more storage, including a Fisher Paykel cool drawer, bin and dishwasher. The beautiful island has been finished with a  Caesarstone Calacatta Nuvo Worktop and an Engineered Reclaimed Weathered Oak shelving unit, perfect for displaying crockery or cookbooks.

As we mentioned earlier, we really wanted to showcase our creativity and the breadth of styles that we can offer. For the standalone microwave and oven, we designed and created this solid concrete housing unit in our ‘Main Iron’ concrete, finished with Buster + Punch T bar handles and pull bars.

For the walk-in pantry, we created a metal and glass divider, something that would allow many people to create a pantry effect if they didn’t have a dedicated room. This stunning pantry has plenty of room for wines, pottery and general storage. The exposed bleach effect Weathered Oak perfectly complements the Crittal style room divider and Little Greene, Lamp Black paintwork.

The showroom doesn’t just stop at the kitchen; within the space we have also showcased the various other services that we offer here at The Main Company. From our stylish wall cladding to our much loved sliding barn doors. You’ll find it all at our London showroom. If you’re ever in the area, please do come on in and take a look around, we would love to take you on a whistle-stop tour!
