FAQ: Engineered Flooring

Q. What is engineered wood flooring?

Our Engineered Wood Flooring is made of a core of birch plywood, with a layer of solid wood veneer on the top of the surface. There’s a common misconception that engineered wood is not real wood! It’s exactly the same look as solid but has many benefits you’ll see below.

Q. Is engineered flooring it suitable with under floor heating (UFH) systems?

Yes, unlike solid wood flooring, engineered flooring can be used with underfloor heating systems.

Q. Can reclaimed wood be engineered making it suitable for under floor heating (UFH) systems?

Yes. We are only a handful of people in the UK that engineer reclaimed wood, our manufacturing facility in Yorkshire handcraft reclaimed engineered flooring the the highest of standards making it suitable for UFH and the modern day home.

Q. How do I install my engineered flooring?

All our engineered flooring has a tongue and groove which is also end matched. Our recommended method is fully bonded down onto screed/ concrete or plywood/chipboard sub floor. Floating fit only on new engineered flooring that is not from our reclaimed range limited to the 180mm and 220mm widths (not advised for 280mm wide boards).

Q. Do the engineered boards ‘click’ together?

No. Our engineered flooring has a has tongue and groove.

Q. Do I glue the flooring joints?

This depends on the installation method. If you are glueing the floor to a screed then the joints do not need to be glued however if you are floating the floor you may require glue floor the tongue and groove system. You could also use the secret nail method.

Q. What is your engineered wood flooring made of?

The core is a 15mm birch plywood. Depending on the solid wood veneer this can range from 5-7mm.

Q. How do I care for engineered wood flooring?

Although engineered wood flooring can cope with moisture better than solid wood it is important to keep the flooring dry at all times.

For everyday cleaning we recommend to vacuum cleaner with a soft flooring attachment or a dry microfiber dust mop to pick up the day to day dust and dirt.

We can also provide you with a flooring soap if a more intense clean is required.
