Part of a renovation project of a large outbuilding, this space offers plenty of charm and character. Built in 1836, the building was originally a foundry where the statue of Eros was re-cast, and we wanted to capture this within the design of the space, maintaining original features and further enhancing them with complementary natural materials. The outbuilding was also a vintage collectables shop, and throughout the space there’s plenty of quirky additions, such as a bookcase reclaimed from the British Library.
For the kitchen a variety of natural materials were used. Bronze, copper, concrete and mahogany create the perfect combination, the ideal mixture of old and new. When choosing the flooring, we had to make sure that the chosen planks worked with all the existing textures and shades. The kitchen cabinetry has been handcrafted using reclaimed wood and topped with a pale grey concrete worktop and the large island topped with copper.
Our Mountain Ridge Oak Parquet flooring was the perfect flooring for this space. Beautifully handcrafted the planks have a cool tone to them, which adds a light and airy feel to the space whilst contrasting the warmer materials. As there is a combination of materials used within the space, the flow of the flooring through the space, bathroom and corridor adds a sense of continuity. The planks were laid in a parquet herringbone formation, which is incredibly on-trend right now.
All of our wooden flooring has been carefully salvaged before being handcrafted at our family-run Yorkshire workshop. Set in the tumbling Yorkshire countryside, the planks are dried in our on-site kiln, before being enhanced with subtle ageing techniques and finished with a hard oil, ensuring a hardwearing and durable surface.
