Designed within a newly built Passivhaus-inspired home, this project centred on creating a warm, inviting kitchen that seamlessly supports both everyday living and effortless entertaining.
Previously a 1930s property, the clients chose to rebuild rather than renovate, giving them the opportunity to create a home that fully reflected the way they wanted to live. Their ambition was to be as creative as possible while ensuring every element remained practical, purposeful and functional.

Main approached the project by carefully considering every aspect of the homeowners’ brief. The kitchen needed to perform effortlessly for the demands of a busy home, while incorporating thoughtful, engaging details that would make the space equally suited to hosting and entertaining. The result is a design that balances practicality with personality, creating a kitchen that feels both highly functional and inviting.
The centrepiece of the kitchen is a sculptural curved island, designed to anchor the space both functionally and socially. Topped with a bespoke reclaimed barn oak breakfast bar, handcrafted by Main, and an aged copper worktop by Andrew Nebbett, it creates a dedicated zone for food preparation while inviting family and guests to gather.
Wrapping around the island, the in-frame cabinetry, finished in Little Greene’s Ambleside, establishes a fresh yet timeless foundation. Paired with striking gold-veined Dekton worktops, warm bronze handles and elegant glazed cabinetry, the carefully layered palette enhances the natural textures of the timber and tiled flooring, bringing depth, warmth and cohesion to the overall design.
Continuing the finishes seamlessly into the adjoining pantry, the glazed cabinetry allows the homeowners to effortlessly view everyday essentials, while generous shelving provides dedicated storage for food, glassware and their extensive wine collection.
Completing the space is the homeowners’ existing wine rack, thoughtfully integrated into a bespoke curved alcove, transforming a practical storage feature into a striking focal point within the room.
