Why Reclaimed Wood Flooring is the Perfect Choice for Commercial Interiors

Setting up a commercial space is not an easy task. It takes a lot of consideration and planning. Nowadays, there are so many options available that it can be hard to decide what to choose. If you’re contemplating which way to go, you should consider reclaimed wood flooring as it offers many benefits.  It can make your space look more attractive and unique, which will definitely draw more customers. Each piece of reclaimed wood has its own history and adds a character to your design. If you’re wondering whether reclaimed wood flooring is a suitable choice for commercial interiors, here are a few things you should consider.

Aesthetic Appeal

When it comes to commercial spaces, it is essential to stand out. Reclaimed wood flooring is available in limited quantities. Every plank has a story to tell. Each one has been salvaged from a variety of interesting buildings, including Old Textile Mills, European Barns, and historic buildings. This backstory guarantees that you get a one-of-a-kind interior that is memorable and leaves an instant impression. The Main Company’s beautiful wood can be found in many places, including shop fits, bars and restaurants. We have worked with a wide range of brands, including Nando’s, Belstaff, Tonkotsu, Peter Lik and Cripps, to name a few. Our product is truly unique, as there are no two pieces of reclaimed wood that are the same.

Durability and Longevity

High-quality reclaimed wood flooring not only offers visual appeal and authentic looks but is also a durable option. Considering the fact that commercial spaces have to endure regular traffic, you need a reliable solution that can withstand all the pressure. The Main Company provides engineered reclaimed wood, which further enhances the stability of your flooring. The engineering process involves cutting lamellas from old oak and cold pressing them to sustainable birch plywood, resulting in increased stability and durability, perfect for any environment. While solid reclaimed timber offers traditional aesthetics, our engineered reclaimed wood provides added stability, making it compatible with underfloor heating and ensuring long-lasting durability.

Practical Considerations

One of the first things you must consider when decorating the interior of your office is how easy it is to clean. You wouldn’t want to spend hours mopping and sweeping the floors. Reclaimed wood flooring can be a practical decision in this aspect, too. We offer a variety of designs that are stunning and easy to maintain. Reclaimed wood quickly catches your eye if you are attracted to vintage looks, but it can suit every space, modern or Victorian. From Weathered Barn Oak to traditional and rustic pine, we provide a wide range of finishes to complement a variety of spaces to suit your personal style. Reclaimed Wood Flooring can be configured and customised in a number of ways to suit your environment. Environmental Benefits

Nowadays, more and more people are becoming aware of the environmental challenges we are facing. This outlook is reflected in interior design trends as well. One of the reasons why the popularity of reclaimed wood flooring has grown in recent years is due to its eco-friendliness. By repurposing existing wood, we can reduce the need for new timber and help to preserve forests. On top of that, salvaging wood from old buildings also minimises waste, which can be a great help to the environment. Sustainable and Stylish Choices for Your Home

History has proven to us that if we want our future generations to live happy lives, we need to take sustainable practices seriously. Some of the top current ecological challenges that might worsen in the future include climate change, deforestation, loss of biodiversity and pollution, and this is just a short list. For this reason, we must adapt our lifestyles and make green choices. The Main Company helps you set up your interior with eco-friendly solutions. How? Here are a few ideas to keep in mind when decorating if you want to go green.

Combining Style and Sustainability

Combining style and sustainability is entirely possible. Your home can look fabulous while embracing eco-friendly solutions. Many people mistakenly believe that using reclaimed products produces a shabby appearance, but this is just a myth. Modern technologies allow us to give these materials a new life without wasting additional resources. With thoughtful design and intricate craftsmanship, reclaimed items can add unique character and sophistication to your space. Read our previous blog – Combining Reclaimed Wood Flooring with Modern Home Technology, to get an idea of how this can be achieved in real life. All our projects are proof of that.

Reclaimed Engineered Wood Flooring

Choosing an eco-friendly flooring solution can have a significant impact on the environment. Traditional parquet and planks often result in excessive wood waste. Naturally, it contributes to deforestation and climate change. Reclaimed wood flooring, however, is a sustainable choice that helps prevent these issues. The Main Company offers the highest quality, unique Reclaimed Wood Flooring. Each plank is meticulously handcrafted and restored by our experts. We celebrate the natural beauty of wood and try to preserve its charm and character. With over 40 years of expertise, The Main Company specialises in engineering reclaimed and rustic wood to perfection. The engineering process further enhances the stability of reclaimed wood. Engineered wood flooring is produced by cutting lamellas from old oak and cold pressing them to sustainable birch plywood. As a result, you get stable and durable flooring that is perfect for any environment.

Reclaimed and Ex-Display Kitchens

Another sustainable solution offered by The Main Company is our stylish reclaimed and ex-display kitchens. Kitchen waste is a significant problem. As homeowners renovate, many perfectly good cabinets and materials end up in landfills. Reclaimed kitchens address this challenge by giving these pieces a second chance. Here at The Main Company, reclaimed materials are at the heart of what we do. Our experts salvage the very best raw, rustic materials that we then use to create cladding, flooring and bespoke kitchens. It doesn’t just end at wood. We also work with concrete and metal.

Why Sustainable Choices Matter

Sustainability is the key to preserving our planet and natural resources. Sustainable practices will reduce pollution and protect plant and animal habitats. When businesses follow this path, it creates a ripple effect, encouraging individuals and communities to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. That is why The Main Company tries to adapt these practices to interior design. By reflecting these principles in every aspect of our lives, we can contribute to a better quality of life.

Final Thoughts

Contrary to the myth that sustainability somehow undermines visual appeal, as you can see, it is entirely possible to combine eco-friendly solutions with stylish designs. By choosing eco-friendly options like reclaimed wood flooring and ex-display kitchens, you make a positive impact on the environment. Embracing these practices helps reduce waste, conserve resources, and support a more sustainable future. At The Main Company, we are dedicated to helping you achieve a balance between aesthetic appeal and environmental responsibility. Our projects demonstrate that these two actually can go hand in hand. Making these thoughtful choices today will benefit both your home and the world for generations to come.

Types of Kitchen Cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are an essential element in kitchen design and storage. The look and finish of cabinets massively contribute to the final look of the kitchen. In this journal post we delve into our top choices for kitchen cabinets, exploring the styles, finishes, and materials that elevate your kitchen.

Handleless Cabinets

Handleless cabinets help create a minimal look, perfect match for our Bespoke Kitchen Project 60 – Putney shown above (left). These cabinets are a popular choice nowadays, however, we feel it is dependant on the look you want to achieve. These cabinets are well suited for more modern and minimal kitchens, whereas for other styles there is a range of options you can choose from. For a fully seamless look we created the cabinets show above (right)

Appliance Cabinets

Concealing appliances within kitchen cabinetry is now a must-have for all our bespoke kitchen projects. This helps achieve a cohesive look overall while keeping all the appliances out of sight. This type of storage also allows for easy accessibility when needed. We ensure these units are designed to fit in with the rest of your cabinetry, delivering a uniform look. Shown above is an in-built dishwasher in our Bespoke Kitchen Project 45 Poppleton.

Painted Shaker Style Cabinets

Cabinets are the best way to infuse your space with colour. We have worked on several projects where we got to use stunning colours making the kitchen a warm and fun place. It’s a great way to express your personal style. The classic shaker style is versatile in way that it suits both modern and traditional kitchens. The kitchen show above is our Bespoke Kitchen Project 56 Cotswolds.

Cabinets with Handles

Handles are a great way to define the style of a kitchen, they are a small detail with a huge impact. We experiment with steel, brass, chrome, nickel and many others across our projects. Some suppliers we used Buster and Punch, Corston, Croft, Armac Martin. Projects shown here: Bespoke Kitchen Project 54 York and Bespoke Kitchen Project 51 Chelsea.

Glass Cabinets

display kitchen pantry

Glass is a beautiful material when used thoughtfully in kitchen design. While some areas in the kitchen require concealment, making glass an unsuitable choice for all cabinets, it excels in spaces meant to showcase items while keeping them enclosed.

Our Reena Simon range, featured in our London showroom, exemplifies this approach. By combining glass with wood, we’ve created a harmonious balance that elevates the aesthetic of any kitchen. Clear glass cabinets higher up allow for the display of elegant barware, while fluted glass in the middle provides a semi-transparent option that adds texture and interest. Finally, opaque wood panels at the bottom offer a practical solution for hiding everyday essentials.

This strategic use of glass ensures a dynamic and visually appealing kitchen design, marrying functionality with style. Show above is our Reena Simon Kitchen.

Mesh Wire Cabinets

With decades of experience designing kitchens, we have had the opportunity to explore a wide range of design themes, each tailored to meet the unique tastes and needs of our clients. One popular style that has garnered significant attention is the industrial look. This aesthetic combines raw materials, rugged textures, and a utilitarian approach to create spaces that are both functional and visually striking.

One standout example of this is our Bespoke Kitchen Project 38 – Earnley. In this project, we achieved the industrial look by incorporating mesh wire cabinets, a defining feature that adds a touch of edgy sophistication to the space. The mesh wire not only provides a unique visual texture but also offers practical benefits, such as improved ventilation and a modern, airy feel.

Common Myths About Ex-Display Kitchens Debunked

Ex-display kitchens are one of the most compelling alternatives for homeowners. They’re opportunities to bring your dream kitchen to life at an unbeatable value. These kitchens, originally showcased in our showroom displays, offer a unique chance to acquire high-quality, often premium-grade designs at significantly discounted prices. Despite these advantages, there remains to be a widespread misconception about ex-display kitchens. Today, we will dispel these myths and reveal the truth. Let’s discuss why these models continue to be a preferred choice for savvy homeowners seeking both value and aesthetic appeal.

Ex-Display Kitchens are Poor Quality

There is a common misconception that ex-display kitchens are of poor quality. It probably comes from the belief that showroom models are worn-out or subpar. In truth, showrooms carefully curate their displays to showcase high-quality products that highlight the best features of a kitchen design. With a range of designs, materials, and colour palettes to choose from, each ex-display kitchen is meticulously crafted to reflect luxury and functionality. All of our kitchens are handmade at our family-run Yorkshire workshop, using hand-sourced, high-quality, and durable materials, such as reclaimed wood for engineered flooring, wood cladding on internal walls, as well as external, etc. Far from being inferior, ex-display kitchens offer homeowners an opportunity to acquire luxurious, well-crafted kitchen solutions at a fraction of their original cost. We welcome you to visit our showroom and explore our ex-kitchens collection firsthand.

Ex-Display Kitchens are Expensive

Despite the perception that ex-display kitchens come with a high price tag, they are often heavily discounted. These discounts do not reflect a compromise in quality; rather, they present a prime opportunity for savvy buyers to invest in premium kitchen solutions at a reduced cost. We create numerous display kitchens throughout the year with varying designs, materials, and colour palettes. These get updated periodically, which allows you to get a high-end quality kitchen at a reduced price. If you’d like to check out some of our top sellers, here are Real-Life Success Stories: Ex Display Kitchen Makeovers.

Limited Customisation Options

Another myth suggests that ex-display kitchens offer limited customisation options. It often leads potential buyers to believe they may not fit their specific space requirements. However, ex-display kitchens are remarkably flexible when it comes to customisation. At The Main Company, we offer extensive options to modify, amend, or adjust any ex-display kitchen to perfectly suit your needs and space dimensions. Whether it’s altering cabinet configurations, adjusting countertop lengths, or integrating new appliances, our team ensures that your kitchen functions seamlessly in your home. Best of all, these modifications are included in the price.

Ex-Display Kitchens are Outdated

There’s a prevailing misconception that ex-display kitchens come in outdated designs. This myth is associated with concerns about style trends and functionality, where buyers worry that showroom models may not reflect current preferences or technological advancements. Contrary to this belief, ex-display kitchens frequently showcase modern designs and innovative features that align with contemporary aesthetics and functional needs. By purchasing current or recently discontinued models, you can capitalise on the latest kitchen trends and technological innovations at a reduced cost.

Final Thoughts

Ex-display kitchens present an exceptional opportunity for homeowners to achieve their dream kitchens without breaking the bank. Far from the myths that suggest poor quality, high costs, limited customisation, or outdated designs, ex-display kitchens offer premium-grade solutions at discounted prices. Showrooms carefully curate these kitchens to showcase high-quality craftsmanship and modern designs, making them a preferred choice for those seeking both value and aesthetic appeal. Whether you’re looking to renovate your kitchen with a unique design or upgrade to the latest trends, ex-display kitchens provide flexibility, quality assurance, and significant savings. By choosing reclaimed wood, you’re not just opting for a unique aesthetic but also making an eco-friendly choice. This aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability, reducing the demand for new timber and minimising waste.

Still, you have nothing to worry about cause The Main Company is here to help. Let’s review some of the top recommendations from our experts.

Understanding Your Needs and Preferences

The first step in planning your bespoke kitchen is setting your priorities straight and understanding your needs and preferences. This involves exploring different kitchen styles to determine which one is the right fit for you. The Main Company offers a variety of top models that might inspire you, from sleek modern designs to cosy rustic layouts. Read our previous blog – From Concept to Completion: A Case Study of a Bespoke Kitchen Project. It might be useful in setting up a suitable model.

To determine which style suits your home and lifestyle, consider factors such as your cooking habits, the overall aesthetic of your home, and how you envision using the space. For example, if you love hosting dinner parties, a spacious, open-plan kitchen with a large island might be ideal. On the other hand, if you prefer a warm, intimate space, a traditional or rustic kitchen with rich wooden elements and vintage fixtures might be more suitable. Take the time to understand your needs and preferences, and you’ll be able to create your dream kitchen.

Designing Your Dream Kitchen

When you’re designing your dream kitchen, the materials play a crucial role. That is why we highly advise you to prioritise quality. The Main Company uses only the finest materials, such as reclaimed solid wood and metal, to create its bespoke kitchens. Contrary to popular belief, reclaimed materials don’t equate to lower quality; rather, they signify the use of the highest quality materials that are eco-friendly and have a rich history. The Main Company excels in engineered wood flooring, internal wood cladding, kitchens, bed heads, or individually tailored pieces of furniture. No piece of wood is identical, and no kitchen is the same – each piece of timber has a unique history, which adds to the character and charm of their creations.

Personalising Your Kitchen

One of the advantages of working with reclaimed materials is their versatility. Whether you need bespoke cabinetry, engineered flooring, or unique furniture pieces, The Main Company can tailor reclaimed materials to suit your design preferences and space requirements. This flexibility allows you to add personal touches that reflect your style and personality. As a result, you get a kitchen that is uniquely yours. This personalised approach can give you a space that meets your practical needs and resonates with your individual taste and aesthetic.

It is crucial to entrust this job to professionals when planning and creating your bespoke kitchen. The Main Company has years of experience, which makes it the ideal choice. The Unique Beauty of Reclaimed Engineered Wood Flooring

Reclaimed engineered wood flooring is a popular option for designers and homeowners today, where sustainability and style go hand in hand. At The Main Company, we’ve spent years perfecting the craft of turning reclaimed and rustic wood into beautiful, high-quality flooring. Let’s explore why reclaimed engineered wood flooring is so unique, from its stunning looks and environmental benefits to its exceptional craftsmanship.

Aesthetic Charm Like No Other

Reclaimed engineered wood flooring has a character all its own. Each plank has its history, full of unique marks, knots, and textures you can’t get with new wood. These imperfections tell a story and bring any space a warm, inviting feel.

At The Main Company, we specialise in transforming these pieces of history into something new. We’re passionate about our craft, which shows in the detailed finishes and perfect construction of our reclaimed engineered wood flooring. The result? Floors that are not only beautiful but also filled with stories and personality.

Environmentally Friendly Choice

Opting for reclaimed engineered wood flooring isn’t just a design choice—it’s eco-friendly. Reclaiming wood means we’re giving old timber a new life, which helps reduce the demand for new wood and helps preserve our forests.

Reclaimed wood also reduces the carbon footprint of logging and processing new timber. By choosing reclaimed wood, you support sustainable practices and a healthier planet. At The Main Company, we’re committed to these green principles and proud to offer flooring that is as good for the environment as it is for your home.

The Art of Craftsmanship

Creating reclaimed engineered wood flooring is a detailed process that requires skill and precision. Our expert artisans carefully select and prepare each piece of reclaimed wood, cleaning, de-nailing, and kiln-drying to ensure it’s ready for use.

The wood is then engineered by bonding a top layer of reclaimed wood to multiple layers of plywood. This process creates a stable, durable product resistant to warping and moisture, making it suitable for any room in your home.

Our artisans work meticulously to preserve the natural beauty of the wood while meeting modern durability standards. The result is a product that perfectly blends the rustic charm of reclaimed wood with the practicality needed for everyday use.

Versatility and Customisation

One of the key advantages of reclaimed engineered wood flooring is its versatility. Whether you have a traditional country home or a modern urban apartment, it looks great in any setting. The unique character of reclaimed wood adds warmth and authenticity to any space.

At The Main Company, we know that every home is unique, so we offer a range of customisation options. Whether you want a specific finish, texture, or plank size, we’ll work with you to create a flooring solution that fits your style and vision perfectly. Our goal is to provide a personalised product that meets your exact needs.

Timeless Appeal

Reclaimed engineered wood flooring isn’t just a passing trend—it’s a timeless choice that’s only gaining popularity. Its durability and classic beauty ensure it will be a beloved feature in your home for years. Plus, the natural patina of reclaimed wood only gets better with age, adding even more character over time.

Our floors are incredibly stable, long-lasting, and constructed using a complex engineering process. Unlike traditional solid wood flooring, reclaimed engineered wood stays looking great even in challenging environments because it does not expand or contract as much with humidity changes.

Final Thoughts

Its rich history, environmental benefits, and exceptional craftsmanship make reclaimed engineered wood flooring unique. With over 40 years of experience transforming reclaimed wood into stunning flooring solutions, The Main Company is proud of its history. Our passion for quality and detail ensures that every piece we create is a work of art that will enhance your home.

Choosing reclaimed engineered wood flooring means embracing an eco-friendly and timeless design. It brings warmth, character, and a unique story to your space. Experience the unmatched beauty and craftsmanship of reclaimed engineered wood flooring with The Main Company, and let us help you create a home that’s as special and enduring as the wood itself.

Unveiling Our New Kitchen Collection

Reena Simon pictured in the collaboration display kitchen

I’m Reena Simon, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share the exciting news about my collaboration with The Main Company. We have come together to create an exclusive kitchen collection that’s been a labour of mutual love, blending my passion for Scandinavian design with their expertise in crafting custom kitchens.

For those who know me from my Instagram, @hygge_for_home, or through my journey as a published author and designer, this collection is a true reflection of my design philosophy. It’s all about natural materials, timeless aesthetics, and the cosy warmth of Scandinavian décor.

We focused on three key elements: solid oak surfaces, fluted detailing, and a floating island design. Each piece is designed to be adaptable, offering endless possibilities for any project.

The Main Company is renowned for their ability to create bespoke, customisable kitchens, and our new range is a testament to their craftsmanship.

Materials Matter: Solid Oak

One of the guiding principles behind this collection is longevity, which is why I chose oak as the primary material. Whether it’s the classic solid oak or the striking white-washed oak, the goal was to showcase the versatility of this beautiful material. Oak’s natural imperfections make it ideal for creating kitchens that are warm and inviting. Additionally, the oak can be tinted in various washes, offering exciting possibilities for individual expression.

Fluted Detailing: A Sensorial Experience

One of the standout features of this collection is the fluted detailing. From open shelves to glass-fronted doors, these tactile elements add a sensorial feeling to the design. Drawing from Art Deco as well a Scandinavian influences, fluted and reeded features bring a timeless quality that fits seamlessly into both modern and traditional kitchens.

Floating Island

The island in this collection is designed to look as if it’s floating, sitting gracefully on visible legs. This concept adds visual interest and depth to any space, making it suitable for both small homes and larger properties. It’s created to feel like a free-standing piece of furniture, adding a unique touch to your kitchen.

Sustainability and Quality

Sustainability is at the core of The Main Company’s ethos, and it was crucial for me to incorporate this into our collection. We’ve used high-quality materials to ensure the designs offer longevity and celebrate classic materials. This collection is not about fleeting trends but about creating something timeless that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Color Psychology in Bespoke Kitchen Design: Choosing the Perfect Palette

At The Main Company, we understand that a kitchen is more than just a functional space; it’s the heart of your home where memories are made. One of the most impactful aspects of kitchen design is the colour palette. Your chosen colours can significantly influence your kitchen’s mood, feel, and functionality. In this blog, we will delve into the fascinating world of colour psychology and offer insights into choosing the perfect palette for your bespoke kitchen.

The Power of Colour in Kitchen Design

Colour psychology is the study of how colours affect human behaviour and emotions. In kitchen design, the right colours can create a sense of warmth, energy, calm, or sophistication. Understanding the psychological effects of different colours can help you make informed decisions when designing your bespoke kitchen.

Warm Colours: Energising and Inviting

Warm colours such as red, orange, and yellow stimulate appetite and create an inviting atmosphere. These colours are ideal for kitchens that serve as social hubs, where family and friends gather to share meals and conversations.

  • Red: Often associated with passion and energy, red can add a bold, vibrant touch to your kitchen. It works well as an accent colour, bringing warmth and excitement to the space. Consider red for a feature wall, backsplash, or accessories.
  • Orange: This cheerful colour exudes enthusiasm and creativity. Orange can create a welcoming and lively environment, perfect for a family kitchen. It pairs beautifully with natural wood tones and earthy elements.
  • Yellow: Yellow is an excellent choice for brightening up a kitchen because it can evoke happiness and positivity. Soft, buttery yellows can create a cosy, comforting space, while bold, sunny shades add a pop of energy.

Cool Colours: Calm and Sophisticated

Cool colours such as blue, green, and purple are known for their calming and soothing effects. These colours are ideal for creating a tranquil, relaxing kitchen environment.

  • Blue: Often associated with serenity and stability, blue can make a kitchen feel peaceful and orderly. Light blues can create a fresh, airy atmosphere, while darker blues add a touch of elegance and sophistication—blue pairs well with white and stainless steel for a modern look.
  • Green: Symbolising nature and renewal, green is a versatile colour that can bring a sense of balance and harmony to your kitchen. Soft sage green creates a calming effect, while vibrant greens add a fresh, stimulating touch. Green works beautifully with natural materials like wood and stone.
  • Purple: Associated with luxury and creativity, purple can add a unique, stylish flair to your kitchen. Light lavender hues create a soft, romantic ambience, while deep purples exude opulence and richness. Purple can be used as an accent colour to add depth and interest.

Neutral Colours: Timeless and Versatile

Neutral colours such as white, grey, beige, and black offer timeless appeal and versatility. They provide a perfect backdrop for other colours and design elements, allowing you to experiment with different styles and accents.

  • White: Symbolising purity and cleanliness, white is a popular choice for kitchens. It creates a bright, open, and airy feel, making small spaces appear larger. White can be paired with any colour, allowing for endless design possibilities.
  • Gray: Known for its sophistication and modernity, grey is a versatile neutral that can create a sleek, contemporary look. Light greys offer a soft, understated elegance, while dark greys add drama and depth—grey pairs well with warm and cool colours.
  • Beige: This warm neutral—grayes comfort and cosiness. Beige tones create a welcoming, homely atmosphere and work well with natural materials and earthy colours. Beige can be used to soften bolder colours or to make a harmonious, monochromatic look.
  • Black: Associated with elegance and sophistication, black can add a touch of luxury and drama to your kitchen. It works well as an accent colour, creating striking contrasts and defining beautiful despairs with metallic accents and bold colours.

Combining Colours: Creating a Cohesive Palette

When choosing a colour palette for your bespoke kitchen, it’s essential to consider how different colours work together. Here are some tips for creating a cohesive and harmonious palette:

  • Start with a Base Colour: Choose a neutral colour, such as white, grey, or beige, as your base. This will provide a versatile backdrop that allows other colours to shine.
  • Add Accent Colours: Select one or two accent colours to add colour and personality to your kitchen. These could be warm or cool colours, depending on the mood you want to create.
  • Consider the 60-30-10 Rule: This rule suggests using your base colour for 60% of the space, an accent colour for 30%, and a secondary accent colour for the remaining 10%. This creates a balanced and visually appealing design.
  • Use Colour to Define Zones: In open-plan kitchens, use different colours to define cooking, dining, and socialising areas. This can help create a sense of structure and organisation.
