About Main

Main began in a small Yorkshire workshop in 1978 when Chris and Karan Main started stripping and restoring painted pine furniture and doors. What began as a small shop has grown into a family-led design and manufacturing house known for meticulous planning, precise joinery, and a quiet, considered and confident approach to diverse materials.

The values that shaped the early years still define the work today. Everything begins with understanding how people live and use their spaces, followed by honest craftsmanship carried out with care to achieve the perfect result. Each kitchen, joinery project, flooring, and cladding installation is made to last, rooted in the belief that quality never dates.

The second generation now guides Main. Tom and Alex Main continue to build on the ethos set by Chris and Karan. Together, the four directors bring diverse knowledge, technical expertise and modern design thinking into every part of the business.

The headquarters and workshop remain in North Yorkshire. We also work from our London base in Islington, collaborating closely with architects, designers and clients across the south, and are positioned near Clerkenwell and the wider design community.

Main stands for craft, clarity and character, a family business shaped by two generations, dedicated to creating unique spaces.
